Supporting Mental Health Awareness
Sunday 10 October 2021 marks World Mental Health Day. Statistically, every working day in the UK two construction workers take their own life. The NAS and wider construction industry are on a journey to change attitudes towards Mental Health and address this shocking statistic.
With the combined efforts of industry focussed organisations such as the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity and Building Mental Health we hope to start conversations, banish stigma and provide hope.
Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity states “Our mission is that no construction worker or their family should be alone in a crisis” . Their 2020 Impact Report details many key achievements including:
- £1,287,818 spent on charitable services
- 2,264 families were supported by the Construction Industry Helpline
UK 0345 605 1956 / ROI 1800 939 122 - £564,000 financial support leveraged from external services
- 268 Mental Health First Aid Courses ran (MHFA England)
The NAS actively supports mental health awareness through a number of activities listed below.
One of the benefits the NAS Members can access is a confidential support helpline, which gives access to fully qualified counsellors. In addition , the Every Day Advice Line offers legal support and financial advice. If you are a NAS Member and would like to explore this benefit more, please login to your Member’s Area or get in touch with our team.
We work closely with a number of Approved Training Providers offering courses related to mental health. The NAS Members can access this training with preferential rates. The courses are MHFA accredited. Contact us for more details.
We are signed up to Building Mental Health Charter and we encourage everyone to sign up via this link.
