Over 20 staff at EE Smith Contracts Ltd, a NAS member, have signed up to the Government’s Cycle to Work scheme since the initiative was introduced at their units on the Clarendon Industrial Estate in Leicester and at various sites in London where the majority of their work is based.
The nationwide scheme enables employees to save money on the overall cost of bikes including e-bikes and equipment ranging from helmets to locks.
EE Smith Contracts has worked on a number of prestigious international hotels in London – including The Londoner, the Grosvenor House, The Langham and The Savoy – along with commercial buildings and super-prime residences.
Dan Cashmore, Contracts Director at EE Smith Contracts said it was great the scheme had been welcomed by employees of all ages.
“With this year being extraordinarily tough on everyone, we feel a duty to our people to help provide them with ways to improve their physical and mental health,” he said.
“With the financial support we have provided, our staff have been able to choose a bike they truly love and feel excited to use, all whilst getting fit and helping towards a cleaner environment.
“Lockdown in particular has led to people looking at how they spend their time and instead of going to the gym, cycling to and from work is the perfect way to start your day with exercise and clear your head before getting to work or returning home at the end of a shift.
“Most of our employees in Leicester are cycling five miles but in London it is a bit further and saves them having to use the tube or train which during Covid-19 has been particularly welcomed since using public transport has been discouraged.
“We hope we are playing our part in creating a healthy and happy workforce and providing added energy to their day while at the same time saving them a few pounds.
“We’re working to lower our overall carbon footprint as a business and this is just one of the factors that will contribute to this in the years to come.”
