The NAS is immensely proud to share the news of Ahmed Shakir’s inspiring journey from joinery apprentice to national competitor.
Ahmed, a Level 2 Joinery Apprentice at Bradford College, will represent his craft at the prestigious SkillBuild National Final this November. This is a fantastic achievement, and demonstrates his hard work and passion for joinery.
SkillBuild, delivered by the CITB, is the UK’s largest multi-trade competition for construction apprentices and trainees, bringing together the country’s top talent. Ahmed’s journey began in 2021 with Bradford College, where he completed his Carpentry and Joinery courses. Driven to hone his skills further, he joined Abrahams & Carlisle in September 2023 as an apprentice in Bench Joinery. This year, his hard work paid off when he secured second place at the SkillBuild Regional Competition at York College, earning him a place in the National Final.
Ahmed shared, “Being one of the final eight was a huge surprise, but it’s exciting! I’m really looking forward to the challenge.” His achievement highlights Bradford College’s dedication to fostering skilled apprenticeships and marks a significant milestone in Ahmed’s early career. The college’s courses, alongside support from industry leaders like Abrahams & Carlisle, gives apprentices like Ahmed the opportunity to thrive in the sector.
Ahmed now prepares for the SkillBuild National Final. Taking place on 18th-21st November, he will compete in a series of challenging tasks. His recent accolades include being named both Carpentry and Joinery Student and Inspirational Student of the Year. We wish Ahmed the best of luck for the final.
