How have you seen the use of technology change the industry?

Technology has dramatically transformed the shopfitting industry over the years. From design to production, advanced software solutions like Microvellum have revolutionised how businesses operate. We’ve seen significant improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and customisation capabilities. Automation and digital workflows have reduced manual errors and production times, allowing shopfitters to meet tight deadlines and complex project requirements more effectively.

Can you give an example of how working with Microvellum has helped a business?

Tek Contracts, a bespoke manufacturer specialising in custom joinery, office interiors, and healthcare facilities, is both a NAS Member and a Microvellum user. When their Joinery Manager retired, Managing Director Chris Perrior faced the challenge of finding someone with comparable expertise to fill the role. After thorough research, Chris and his team turned to Microvellum’s AutoCAD-based software to transition from manual processes. The software provided the flexibility, automation, and streamlined engineering and manufacturing workflows Tek Contracts needed. “We spent a lot of time evaluating different systems, but Microvellum stood out. It offered the level of customisation and automation we required to streamline our production,” Chris shared.

One of the immediate benefits was Microvellum’s seamless integration with their SCM Pratix CNC router, automating cutting lists, generating precise machine code, and producing detailed drawings. “What used to take hours now takes minutes,” said Chris. With Microvellum, Tek Contracts can take on more complex projects more efficiently while maintaining quality and accuracy.

“Microvellum has become an essential part of our business. It has allowed us to maintain quality while growing our capacity,” Chris added. Despite challenges in finding skilled labor, Microvellum’s software has helped bridge the gap, enabling Tek Contracts to thrive.

What role does customer feedback play in the development of Microvellum’s products and services?

Customer feedback plays a crucial role in the development and enhancement of Microvellum’s products and services. We actively seek and encourage feedback from our users to understand their needs, challenges, and experiences. This feedback directly influences our software updates. This way, we ensure new features and improvements are aligned with what our clients need and want.

We involve clients in beta testing new features and updates, allowing us to gather valuable insights and make necessary adjustments before official releases. Engaging with select clients through advisory boards helps us discuss future developments and ensure our strategic direction meets market demands. By placing our clients at the centre of our development process, we ensure that our solutions are innovative, practical, and effective for real-world applications.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

“The best piece of advice I’ve ever received? To venture into the shopfitting industry rather than sticking solely to kitchen making. The shopfitting industry is incredibly fascinating, as it encompasses a wide range of materials beyond just wood. Each project brings its own unique set of challenges and opportunities, making the work both diverse and engaging. This variety not only keeps things interesting but also allows for continuous learning and growth, which is truly rewarding.”
