Building the Future: Opportunities for Businesses in the New Hospital Programme

As you may know, the New Hospital Programme (NHP) represents the largest hospital building initiative in a generation, set to deliver state-of-the-art facilities for NHS patients and staff across England.

On Monday, 20 January, the Rt Hon Wes Streeting MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, addressed the House of Commons with an update on the NHP. The statement outlined the outcomes of last year’s programme review and announced the publication of the NHP Plan for Implementation. You can access further details on the review, including a letter to industry, via the following link: Government announcement on review of New Hospital Programme – New Hospital Programme.

The review confirmed a comprehensive plan and timeline for delivering new hospital schemes, supported by secured funding from the Spending Review. The NHP now includes five-year waves of investment, ensuring a balanced portfolio of hospital schemes at various development stages. Investment will grow to £15bn over each wave, averaging £3bn annually from 2030 onward.

This programme offers a remarkable opportunity for businesses of all sizes, with a committed pipeline of work providing the certainty needed to invest, create jobs, drive growth, and contribute to world-class healthcare experiences.

To help businesses prepare, NHP will launch NHP Bitesize, a series of strategic engagements offering updates on progress and plans for the year ahead. The first event is set for late February, with details shared soon with businesses registered for NHP updates. If you haven’t already signed up but wish to stay informed, register here.
