The Worker Protection Act: What Your Business Needs to Know

As of October 26th, the Worker Protection Act is now in effect. With nearly half of businesses not fully prepared, it’s crucial for employers to stay compliant and informed about their new responsibilities under this legislation.

What is the Worker Protection Act?

Effective October 26, 2024, the act strengthens protections against workplace harassment in the UK. It amends the Equality Act 2010 to require employers to take proactive steps to prevent sexual harassment. Employers must establish clear anti-harassment policies, conduct mandatory staff and management training, and ensure safe reporting channels for employees.

Non-compliance carries serious consequences. Employment tribunals may increase compensation by up to 25% in harassment cases if employers are found at fault. This law affects all sectors and company sizes, emphasising prevention and the need for safer, respectful work environments.

For employers, this act is a prompt to reassess policies, reinforce training, and foster a safe workplace.
